    I make handmade glass beads on a propane-oxygen torch. The beads are decorated with precious metal foil and/or wire, dichroic glass and stringer designs. The beads are kiln annealed for durability. I use the beads as handles for functional art giftware such as serving utensils, cheese knives, bottle openers, wine stoppers, scarf holders, pens, etc. I also make the beads into wearable art jewelry; necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

Most of the material is 125+ years old redwood, (most common wood available and longest lasting building material at the time). Half of my work is traditional "Americana", the other half is "Early Oriental" The look of the wood forged by natures elements over time, determines my final creation. Constructed to last indefinitely outdoors, in garden, or enclosed patio.

  • I make self- contained enclosed ocean habitats for a specie of Hawaiian red shrimp. Inside are various types of expired corals, faux florals, lava rocks, sand, colored gravel and sea shells. The shrimp only grow to 1/2", even in the wild, so they are perfect for the ecosystems. They live in brackish water that has algae in it. On average they live 2- 3 years but can live over 10 years too.

I carve the lip of the vases off with my sandblaster changing the shape of the vase to join with my artwork. For example carving the tip of the Great Blue Heron wings out above the rest of the vase.   • Stainless steel mesh rubber and wood sculptural yet functional baskets. Shaping the stainless steel applying pressure and folds the wood and rubber hold the tension that steel generates. All of my designs are in a sense unique and different from each other since the technique I use makes almost impossible to come up with two identical pieces. Rubber pieces cut by shaping razor sharp steel rules and applying pressure against the material.
